Ad Augusta per Angusta

To high places via narrow paths.  Anything worth achieving is worth fighting for.  No pain, no gain.  When we go to the mountains, all these things are true.  My wife and I have gone to the mountains during our holidays since we were married.  Our son came with us from the time he was born, and he and his wife (both climbers) spend much of their leisure time in the mountains as well.  We have been to some wonderful places, and thought we would like to share some photographs with anyone who might be interested.  Most of the routes are in the mountains of Western Canada.

We had ambitions to be climbers in the days of heavy boots and hemp rope.  Over time we improved as climbers, but we were just as happy to achieve a summit the easy way as the hard way, and our tolerance for packing gear subsides as we get older.  Now we are happy to let someone else lead over technical terrain.  Otherwise we do mainly hiking and scrambling.  Most of our mountain trips are “alpine style” ascents in a day, although we sometimes do a traverse or a route over a number of days.

Although we are hoping to encourage viewers of these pages to enjoy the mountains as we do, it must be mentioned that some of the routes are difficult and require a very good level of fitness and a head for heights.  These are all hikes and scrambles, but some routes will be impossible to complete and will not be enjoyable if the traveller is not maintaining a good level of fitness on a regular basis.  Only brief descriptions and “impressions” of these routes are provided here, as information is usually available elsewhere.  Over time we may try to provide route descriptions for trips not covered in available publications.
